Freetown – Voters at the November 19 special Town Meeting will deliberate on a single article – whether to authorize a Tax Increment Financing agreement with Amazon.
Amazon last month announced its intent to build a one million-square-foot distribution facility in the South Coast Life Science and Technology Park on the Fall River-Freetown line. In a letter to municipal officials, Amazon said it would create 1,000 permanent jobs and hundreds of temporary and part-time positions.
The Fall River City Council approved the TIF agreement Thursday.
In addition to authorizing the TIF agreement, the article would also authorize selectmen to take other actions needed to obtain approval for the project. A majority vote is required.
TIF agreements allow communities to provide flexible targeted incentives to stimulate the development of job-creating businesses.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Freetown Elementary School, 43 Bullock Road.
