Fall River Pier Project Awarded $1M in Grant Funding

After years of clean-up and controversy, residents and visitors could be enjoying the views of the Taunton River from the redeveloped City Pier by next summer after the Seaport Economic Council awarded a $1 million grant to the Fall River Redevelopment Authority on Tuesday.
Ken Fiola, vice president of the Bristol County Economic Development Consultants, gave a presentation to the Seaport Council by video on Tuesday along with other communities vying for grant money before the City Pier project funding was approved.
“The grant approval in conjunction with the $1.6 million from the redevelopment authority brings the City Pier project one step closer to closure. This money will enable the City Pier to be opened up to the public and utilized by the public for open space purposes and community events,” said Fiola.
None of the redevelopment of the City Pier could have been done without the appropriation from the legislature and the work of Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito who chairs the Seaport Economic Council, said Fiola.
With hopes that the grant money is released soon, Fiola said construction could begin in the spring of 2021.
