Liberty Utilities has acquired the former Homeland Builders property on Sykes Road in the Industrial Park for $5.8 million with plans to make it its local headquarters in the 72,280 square-foot facility on 8.63 acres of land.
Homeland Builders, owned by Edward Ribeiro, closed unexpectedly earlier this year after being in business for 47 years.
“We purchased the property and we are in the design phase now. So the thinking is we are going to close and sell our Fifth Street location and our Anawan Street location,” said Emily Burnett, Liberty Utilities program manager. “The point is to get our people under one roof to increase efficiency and get everybody together.”
The utility company employs up to 150 people locally and serves 56,000 customers in Massachusetts.
